Against Every Objection is here!

I’m so excited to finally put Against Every Objection out into the world and into your hands! The beautiful cover, pictured in the image above, was designed by Brandi at eBook Cover Designs. Brandi has designed a few of my covers, and once again, she knocked it out of the park. For a full description of the book, check out its website page here, or go straight to Amazon to start reading now! It’s available in eBook, KU, and paperback, and you can find it here.

In each of my books, one of the main characters always has a connection to a city. I like to have that basic difference between them, right off the bat; one who loves the hustle and bustle of city life, and one who loves the quiet of the beach or a small town. I also like to show each of them eventually embracing the other’s home. In Against Every Objection, Will Darcy is a Boston-born-and-bred lawyer who is sent to Provincetown, Massachusetts—located at the tip of Cape Cod—for work. Elizabeth Bennet is an artist who has lived most of her life in Provincetown, and is all about surfing, the beach, and her dune shack. As the story moves along, and Elizabeth and Will grow closer, she begins to understand a different side of the city, and he begins to appreciate the beauty and relaxed pace of her hometown.

In the excerpt below, we have Elizabeth picking Will’s brain about Boston, and why he loves it so much. At this point in the story, after a tumultuous start, they are becoming friends—though there might be something else there, simmering below the surface.

I hope you enjoy the excerpt! Be sure to read beyond it to find out how you can enter the giveaway!

“Tell me about Boston,” she said after a moment. “What do you like about it?”

His eyes narrowed playfully. “You ask a lot of questions.”

“I’m curious! You already know so much about me, about my life, and what I do. But I only know the part of you that exists here, as my lawyer. I’m intrigued, I guess. I’ve never lived in a city, or wanted to. They’re nice to visit and all, and I’ve gone to Boston for shows, and even to New York—which, if I’m being honest, melted my brain a little. There was just so much going on.”

“New York City is a lot. But Boston…it’s not like that. There are some crazy-busy areas, of course, and the touristy spots, but there are beautiful, quiet places too. Parks and gardens that make you forget you’re in the middle of a city. The restaurants are amazing, and there are a bunch of little hole-in-the-wall cafés, and galleries, museums, bookshops…and there’s so much history, on every corner.”

She smiled. “You love it.”

He nodded. “I do. I’ve traveled a lot, but Boston is home.”

“I suppose I’ve never really given it a chance. I’ve always thought of it as just concrete and steel, with too many people. But I suppose there are little pockets of beauty.”

“Exactly. You just have to look for them, because they’re not always obvious.”

“Okay, so…what’s your favorite pocket?” she asked, offering him the last scallop.

“How did I know that would be your next question?” he said with a chuckle, and then thought for a moment while he chewed. “That’s a tough question. Ramler Park is nice, and I take Bowie to the dog park in the Seaport a lot. But we have places that are actually called pocket parks.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “You can only find them on foot, because they’re carved from spaces that exist between buildings. Temple Street Park is my favorite. One of the walls is made of gray granite. It’s part of an old church. They always decorate at Christmas, and when it snows, it feels like you’re in another world.” He paused. “I feel like I’ve talked about my mother a lot today, and I don’t want to keep doing that, but for some reason, our conversations keep leading to her.”

“I don’t mind,” she said, her voice soft. “Is there a place that reminds you of her?”

“I grew up in the Back Bay, and there was an empty lot near our neighborhood that was always overgrown with weeds and littered with trash. A couple of years after my mom died, my father decided to buy the land from the city, and he worked with the Parks and Rec Department to transform it into a rose garden. Roses were my mother’s favorite flower, so for the past fifteen years or so, it’s been a place for the public to visit and…well, stop and smell the roses, I guess.”

“What a wonderful tribute to her.”

“It is. And I know I’ve told you this already, but I’ll take you to Acorn Street if you ever want to see it in person. And the same goes for the rose garden. In fact, I’ll give you a personal tour of Boston that is so top-notch, so unforgettable, you’ll fall in love with it.”

Now who’s issuing a challenge?”

Their eyes met, and he felt it again—that low pulse of energy moving between them. “I am. It’s on the table, and will remain there in perpetuity. You just let me know when you’re ready to accept.”
