Jack called out from inside the giant tent in his bedroom that had been fashioned from sheets and blankets.

“’Lizabeth, you comin’ in?”

She lifted the edge of one sheet, poked her head in, and immediately laughed at Will, who’d folded himself up to fit inside. “Looks like tight quarters.”

“Very tight,” he said drolly. “Get in here.”

Giggling, she scooted under the sheet until she was sitting in the middle with them.

“Can I sleep in here tonight?” Jack asked his father.

“You want to sleep in here? On the floor?” Will asked. “I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”

“But that’s why we builded it, so I can sleep in it.” He turned to Elizabeth. “Right, ’Lizabeth?”

“Um, I know it’s not my decision, but why not?” She looked at Will with pleading eyes, and he sighed.

“Alright, you can sleep in here. I’ll get your sleeping bag and your pillow, and you go brush your teeth.”

A few hours later, Will padded quietly out of Jack’s room after checking on him one last time. “He’s sound asleep in there,” he whispered to Elizabeth as they made their way down the hall.

“I hope the sheets don’t collapse on him during the night.”

He chuckled and shrugged. “Extra covers.” He grabbed her hand and quickly led her down the hall. “Let’s go, Bennet.”

“Let’s go? Where are we going, Darcy?” She laughed as she was tugged along behind him.

“We are locking ourselves in here,” he said, pulling her into his bedroom, “and we are not leaving until morning. I’ve been dying to drag you up here since we got back to the house.” He pulled his shirt over his head and let it drop to the floor, then bent to pick her up. “We need to finish what you started in the club.”

She squealed as she was dropped unceremoniously onto the center of his bed. “What I started?” she asked incredulously. “You were the one who dragged me off the dance floor.”

“You poked the bear.” He climbed onto the bed and hovered over her on all fours.

“Poke, poke, poke.” She let her hands drift up his stomach and chest before wrapping them around his shoulders. “It’s time for the bear to poke me, don’t you think?”

  1. Yes, we, too, made tents out of sheets as children. Now my grandchildren use other things but still make tents.

I finished reading this volume early this morning. (No, I did not stay up late.) Loved it and plan to write a review some time today….5 stars from me.
